BRITONS ASK FOR A GUARD

News of the world's trouble-

spots last night : CHINA.-Mr. Gerald Stock- ley, British Consul-General, appealed to the Hankow garrison and police for "adequate protection" of Britons in Hankow. Three hundred students tried to reach the British consulate but police diverted them and put extra guards on British buildings

Anti-British feeling over the clearing of slums in British-run Kowloon-flared up on Friday, when a mob burned the British consulate in Canton, 500 miles from Hankow.

Semi- martial law has been imposed in Canton, and news- papers are ordered to print only Government versions disorders.
